Why is the glass kitchen backsplash THE simple, aesthetic and trendy solution for 2025-2026?

Some decorating ideas are born in magazines, on Pinterest or in stores… and others simply start in our living room on a Sunday morning, coffee in hand.

This is what happened to Virginie, a customer who shared her story with us:

"I'm sitting in my living room, looking at my kitchen. It's beautiful, fairly new (not even six years old), but I feel for a change. Nothing drastic, just a touch of freshness. Out of question to rip everything out. I've explored countless ideas: repaint the cabinets? No, they're perfect. Change the sink? Too much waste. So I flipped through magazines, scrolled through reels and even asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity... (Note to self: AI has yet to take an interior design course.) Then I stumbled across this blog on 2025 design trends by Vitrerie BV... and right then, I fell in love with the glass backsplash for my kitchen!"

And it’s with this very story in mind that we wanted to take stock: why is the glass kitchen backsplash THE simple, aesthetic and trendy solution?

A Small Change That Makes All the Difference

First, the glass kitchen backsplash is the kind of feature that doesn’t catch the eye… until you notice it. And then, there’s no turning back!

It’s the ideal option for those who, like Virginie, want a striking upgrade without demolition.

Glass: The Perfect Ally for Modern (and Quebec) Kitchens

In several projects in Montreal, Laval and elsewhere in Quebec, a clear trend can be observed: a return to chic minimalism.

Open, bright, flawless kitchens dominate, and glass fits right in. We’re even seeing kitchens… that are almost transparent! You see what we mean? Ultra-minimalist kitchens where even the fridge and stove are hidden behind glass panels or perfectly camouflaged cupboards.

In short, whether you’re a fan of contemporary, Scandinavian or even modern farmhouse style, glass will adapt to your decor with elegance and luminosity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kitchen Backsplashes: We Answer You (and Virginie)

How Much Does a Kitchen Backsplash Cost?

Let’s not beat around the bush: let’s start with the question that’s on everyone’s mind… How much does it cost?

The price of a glass kitchen backsplash can vary considerably depending on a number of factors. Here are the key elements to consider:

Dimensions: As you’d expect, the larger the surface area, the higher the cost, logically.

Custom cut-outs: The more cut-outs you have – electrical outlets, switches, rounded corners, holes for accessories – the higher the price. A simple wall with no cut-outs will therefore be much more affordable.

Edge finish: Polished, rough, chamfered… each finish influences the final cost.

Type of installation: the accessibility of the surface, the complexity of the installation and the preparation required can all affect the final price.

Think you can save money by doing it yourself? Be careful! Just a few millimetres off can render the panel unusable. And throwing away several hundred dollars’ worth of glass… that’s really discouraging.

Good to know: glass experts often offer free quotations. This is the best way to get a clear picture of the real cost of your project. Online prices are often misleading, because every project is unique and highly personalized.

In 2026, the kitchen backsplash is no longer a mere functional detail: it’s becoming a genuine element of style. Several materials are in the spotlight this year, each with its own advantages… and minor challenges.

Glass is emerging as a strong trend. It is appreciated for its ease of maintenance, its seamless, smooth surface and its ability to reflect natural light. In addition to visually enlarging the space, it brings a modern, minimalist look to the kitchen. It’s also possible to have it custom-coloured!

Ceramic, always popular, remains an economical and accessible option. It’s easy to install and available in a wide variety of colours and patterns. However, joint maintenance can be more demanding on a daily basis.

Porcelain, more resistant and upscale, is gaining in popularity for more ambitious renovation projects. Its installation is more complex, however, and often requires the intervention of a professional.

Marble, on the other hand, is synonymous with elegance and luxury. It is visually impressive, but requires rigorous maintenance and precise installation. Unsealed, it can stain easily.

Wood adds a warm, natural touch to the kitchen. It is less common as a complete backsplash, but increasingly used as an accent. It must, however, be well sealed to resist moisture and splashes.

Finally, paint remains the most affordable option. Easy to apply, it lets you change your look quickly. However, it is also the dirtiest and least durable in the long term.

Okay, now this can get complicated. We don’t recommend going to your local hardware store, buying glass and installing it yourself.

First: does the glass meet kitchen safety standards? Is it tempered? Imagine washing your backsplash and having it break in your hands because it wasn’t properly installed or the quality of the glass is insufficient… DIY is not an option here. Take our word for it!

Lacobel or Tendance+ glass is the ideal choice. This type of glass is factory-fabricated from ultra-clear glass, then painted in the colour selected by the customer.

After being measured and cut to size, the glass is then tempered. Tempered glass is non-negotiable in the kitchen. Imagine the heat generated by your gas stove on a glass surface… Not using tempered glass, capable of withstanding the heat a kitchen can produce, could be nothing short of catastrophic.
Note that most manufacturers offer a 5-year warranty against any deterioration, chipping or discolouration, provided the glass is installed according to the recommendations provided.

Choosing the right colour for your glass kitchen backsplash can completely transform the ambience of your room. The key is to find the right balance with existing materials, such as cabinets, countertops and flooring.

Black and white remain popular choices: two classics that go with almost anything. But if you’re in the mood for a little more boldness or personality, know that there are a host of other shades available. From neutral finishes to more vibrant colours, there’s something to suit every style.

It’s even possible to match the majority of paint colours offered by the major brands on the Quebec market (Sherwin-Williams, Sico, Benjamin Moore or RAL.). Colour development fees may apply, but the end result will be 100% customized and perfectly coordinated with your decor.

A friendly (and crucial) reminder: don’t get the wrong colour code, and take the time to check… twice, even three times! A red backsplash in a green kitchen can quickly go from “wow” to “oops.” And once in production, there’s no turning back! That said, rest assured: the manufacturing process includes high-end quality control, with reference samples to ensure colour consistency and fidelity.

For colour fidelity, we always recommend ultra-clear glass, especially for lighter shades. It avoids unpleasant surprises and really brings out the colour.

These glasses are available in various thicknesses (ranging from 4 mm to 19 mm) and in several types: clear, ultra-clear, or tinted. Enough to adapt your project to your needs and style.

Installing a glass backsplash isn’t just a matter of gluing a plate to the wall – it’s precision work, requiring rigour, expertise and the right support. Here’s how each stage of the project unfolds:

  1. Meeting the customer and accepting the project
It all starts with a discussion to understand your needs, preferences and style. Once the project has been validated, we move on to the most crucial stage.
  2. Precise measurement
This is the most important part of the process. Measurements must be taken to the millimetre, especially if your backsplash includes cut-outs for electrical outlets, switches or special corners. A small error at this stage can jeopardize everything.
  3. Production (15 to 20 working days)
Once the measurements have been confirmed, the glass is cut to size and then tempered to guarantee its resistance to heat and impact. The glass is made right here in Quebec, by one of the finest workshops specializing in custom glass.
  4. Installation
Installation is fast, clean and professional. The glass is carefully fixed to ensure perfect adhesion and an impeccable finish.
  5. The end result: a happy customer!
Your kitchen is transformed with a modern, bright and easy-to-maintain touch. Mission accomplished!

Other Uses for Glass Backsplashes

Now, we’ve been talking about kitchen backsplashes all along, but we often have customers who love the concept of glass on the wall so much that they want it elsewhere in the house!

We’ve seen glass backsplashes in showers, living rooms and even offices. And yes, writing directly on a glass wall with an erasable marker is not only practical, it’s also very pleasant!
In short, the uses for glass are endless. All it takes is a little boldness and inspiration to make it a part of every room in the house.
